About MIL & Aubrey Hamlett

Welcome to ‘My Interning Life’

Launched in 2011, My Interning Life is simply a blog about university students who are doing work experience or interning in the media industry.

Each week interns will be profiled and talk about where they work and what they do at their internship.

This blog has been created in an effort to encourage other university students who have not done work experience to get out there and do it. It is well known that work experience in the industry will help you stand out against other graduates without experience.

About Aubrey Hamlett

MIL trophy shotMy name is Aubrey Hamlett, I am the creator and author of this blog. I have recently completed a Bachelor of Media Studies (Journalism) at La Trobe University in Melbourne.

From March until November 2011 I interned at Milk Kiddle Langmaid PR. I also worked for six months at Milk Kiddle Langmaid PR as a PR Account Manager. During my time at Milk PR I worked on client accounts such as Beyond Hibiscus Coconut Water, The 2012 Great Australia Day Swim, The Great Aussie Sex Census and Sexpo Sydney 2012.

As of March 2012, I started interning at Melbourne Storm Rugby League Club. My role as Digital Media Intern requires me to write articles, update Storm social media sites and research statistics, attend press conferences, team announcements and game days.

In April 2012 I completed a weeks worth of work experience at Cosmopolitan magazines at ACP in Sydney. During that time I was offered the Victorian Promotional and Sales intern role at Universal Music Australia.

During my mid year break from university, I worked as an intern at Melbourne Storm and Universal Music Australia. Upon entering my final semester at university I knew I couldn’t juggle two internships, course work and my casual job. After much consideration I decided to leave Universal and focus on university and interning at Melbourne Storm.

I witnessed the success of Melbourne Storm in 2012 as they became the NRL Premiers. Conducting the Live Chat on Game Days became my favourite part of interning with Storm. I loved the fan engagement and calling the games live from the press box at AAMI Park in Melbourne.

In August 2011 I launched this highly successful blog, My Interning Life where each week I profile students who are interning. The aim of the whole process is to share and learn about other’s exepriences. I also hope to inspire other students who don’t do work experience while at university to get out there and do it.

I have also been published several times (mainly about sport) writing opinion articles on The Roar and upstart Magazine.

Links to my published work is on my first blog, aubrey out of the box.
After graduating from university, I spent five long months looking for a full time job in the industry. After many highs and lows, I scored a contract with Netball Australia as Communications Coordinator covering a maternity vacancy for three and a half months. At the end of my contract with netball I began working full time at Hockey Victoria as Communications Coordinator.

  2. Great idea for a blog! I was an Intern for a while so it is interesting to see from other P.OV’s.
